“No guarantee” Broncos will pursue Tony Romo if released
Tony Romo thanked his fans for their support after news broke that the Dallas Cowboys planned to release their longtime quarterback. Romo carries a $24 million salary cap hit.
“The Houston Texans are all in to get Tony Romo”, a source tells HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY after learning that the Dallas Cowboys would be letting him go on March 9.
Even though the odds favor Romo to land in Denver, it will be interesting to see how things play out over the course of the offseason.
As of Friday morning, Romo remains on the Cowboys.
Romo’s 39-second message was delivered with Bob Dylan’s “The Times They Are A Changin'” playing in the background.
Romo posted this video on social media Thursday afternoon, saying it’s been “a insane 48 hours” and thanking his fans for their support. It has been overwhelming.
And there wasn’t any reason to think it wouldn’t happen as recently as two years ago after Dallas won the NFC East at 12-4 in Romo’s last full season as the starter.
That means that Romo still doesn’t have a starting job on a Super Bowl contender, and it means that the Denver Broncos and Houston Texans still (probably) don’t have a championship-caliber quarterback for the 2017 season. He would count $10.7 million against their cap this season and $8.9 million next season. The Broncos are not operating with a sense of urgency or panic due to their comfort level with Trevor Siemian (18 touchdowns, 10 interceptions in 14 starts last season) and the presence of Lynch.
“It’s rare to find a player in free agency with the combination of speed and natural playmaking ability of a DeSean Jackson”, said Buccaneers general manager Jason Licht. And as Jared Dubin pointed out on Twitter, Romo has near-identical career marks in key rate stats like completion percentage, touchdown percentage, interception percentage and yards per passing attempt as Peyton Manning.
CHICAGO (AP) – The Chicago Bears have closed the book on the Jay Cutler era as their franchise quarterback, after an unfulfilling eight years that included only one postseason appearance.
