‘No pressure’ says World Gymnastics Championships contender Brinn
The names in there – Max, Louis, Christian, Dan Purvis – we are the best in the country and I think from that last Olympic result – those guys that won a bronze medal have proved that we are one of the best gymnastics countries in the world so that’s a massive confidence boost and that was a big inspiration to me to be on there with them.
“I have spoken to him and he is very happy to come out here, compete at the worlds and put in a good job. The doctor and medical team have been taking care of me”. Brinn has just got in there and he’s 18, I’m 19 and the young and the old ones are mixing it together.
Needing a top eight finish after the two day qualification competition the girls scored a total of 227.162 points to not only seal Olympic qualification but also power though to Tuesday’s team final.
“It’s coming up fast so the important thing is staying fit and healthy and I can definitely be there”. The United States men’s team is comprised of: Chris Brooks of Houston/Team Hilton (U.S. Olympic Training Center); Marvin Kimble of Milwaukee, Wis./Team Hilton (U.S. Olympic Training Center); Danell Leyva of Miami, Fla./Team Hilton (Universal Gymnastics); Alexander Naddour of Queen Creek, Ariz./Team Hilton (USA Youth Fitness Center); Paul Ruggeri of Manlius, N.Y./Team Hilton (U.S. Olympic Training Center); Donnell Whittenburg of Baltimore, Md./Team Hilton (U.S. Olympic Training Center); and Brandon Wynn of Voorhees, N.J./Team Hilton (U.S. Olympic Training Center).
Next year’s Games is the one that really matters but Wilson is in no doubt as to the prestige of next week’s tournament in its own right.
“I’m really looking forward to competing at the SSE Hydro”.
At the world championships, each team has six gymnasts.
The historic event, which will incorporate both a team and an individual format, forms part of the inaugural multi-event European Sports Championships to be held across Glasgow and Berlin in a unique partnership with a few of Europe’s top sports. “We won’t know until late tomorrow night”.
But the 23-year-old didn’t stop there as she went on to Glasgow for the 2014 Commonwealth Games and left with two gold medals to show for her efforts in the team and uneven bars.
“I had a great time on there but I just want to let the gymnastics do the talking and that’s what’s important for me”.
The competition begins on Friday, 23 October at the SSE Hydro Arena in Glasgow, and Bevan believes the home crowd will give the whole team a lift. She’ll be shouting and cheering in the crowd along with my family and that will be great to see as well.
“It will be awesome, I’m sure it will bring back lots of great memories from the Commonwealths past year”.
How He Can Help: His window of opportunity appeared to close after serving as an alternate at the 2012 Olympic Games, but Brooks found new life and had his best showing at the USA championships this summer when he was first in high bar, second in parallel bars and third in all-around. “Hopefully I can produce as good a result as I did then”.
