No relationship between Mourinho and Man United: Van Gaal
United are under intense pressure to appoint a world-class boss to succeed the underperforming Louis Van Gaal following the sensational news that Pep Guardiola will be arriving in the Premier League this summer.
The Portuguese manager, who was sacked by Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich last December following a turbulent time at Stamford Bridge, has been constantly linked to a move to United to replace embattled Louis van Gaal.
His comments towards journalists in the aftermath of the Chelsea draw as he openly accused of “inventing” a story and told one reporter it would be them, and not Van Gaal, who would get the sack in the morning. “When you play such a game against a team like Chelsea, you have to reward yourself”. “That’s not an attractive style of play?”
“He did that also in the first half”. They have often been at the receiving end of his “park the bus” philosophy, and would probably not find it as an appealing change from the present “keep the ball” philosophy at the club.
The ESPN FC crew discuss if Jose Mourinho is a viable replacement for Van Gaal at Man United.
He said: “It was not a “boring” match”.
“You have spoken with [United’s executive vice-chairman] Ed Woodward?”.
Eden Hazard scored his first Chelsea goal of the season – and for 31 games – at stadium:mk and could start in the Premier League for the first time in five weeks against United.
United are now fifth in the league table and are 10 points behind surprise pace setters Leicester City.
“You know the recent history of this club”. Maybe I can announce that.
“Bringing him back at a good level is key for us”, Hiddink added.
“For me there’s been a lack of spark and this is coming from either the manager or the players, they have to lift themselves and try to reach the goal which is to give pleasure to the fans and win trophies”. I can have my family, I can have my friends, I can have my quiet life, which I also like, and I can have my football. We have to improve in that way, but I’m happy with the performance.
United captain Rooney suggested after last week’s FA Cup victory at Derby that manager Van Gaal had released some of the shackles on the team.
“We sat back a bit too much [late on] and the game was broken up a bit too much because, in my opinion, we were giving too many free-kicks away”.
