No takers for Kim K’s curvaceous ‘Selfish’
Selfish did not meet with the kindest reception when it came out in May, with many criticising the lack of care taken with printing, and the fact that certain parts of Kim K disappeared into the crease when opening the pages.
According to News.com.au, the book also grabbed some interesting reviews on social media, out of which one reads, “A poor tree died for this”, while another reads, “I can recommend the audio version of this book“.
There’s a million selfies of Kim Kardashian on Instagram, but she thought we needed a book.
Why buy the cow when the milk is free?
But reps for Nielsen Bookscan told Radar exclusively that so far, it has only sold 32,000 copies. This figure represents just 0.8% of Kardashian’s Instagram followers.
“What’s more, the book is a critical flop online”. And those reviews have been scathing. By contemporary standards, though, most seem to agree that around 5000 copies is the sales threshold to hit for your book to meet the basic standard for commercial success in the United States.
If it is true, hopefully Kardashian has something else up her sleeve to boost the book’s sales!
She promised the selfies would be chronologically listed and that they would also include a few lines about the context in which they’d been snapped, and that she would even include photos she’d never made public before. We’ll spare you the math: Selfish has only sold about 32,000 copies after three months in stores. (She does still have a link to the book on her instagram). Who wants to carry around a clunky book when you can have Kim’s selfies right in your pocket? Perhaps there is too much of a good thing where self-promotion is concerned?
