No WAGs In Sri Lanka, BCCI Tells Cricketers
BCCI has yet again decided to bar the presence of wives and girlfriends (WAGs) of Indian cricketers on the upcoming Test tour to Sri Lanka.
A majority of the 15-member squad led by Virat Kohli have been on a break from cricket since returning from Bangladesh last month, and the board felt that they should stick to their earlier protocol regarding players’ partners.
According to a top BCCI official, most of the players on tour are just coming off a month-long break where they had enough time with their families. “And we’ve decided that their wives will not be allowed on tour”, a BCCI official was quoted as saying.
The 46-year-old had coached Sri Lanka after the 2011 World Cup and then took up the Bangladesh job.
India tour of Sri Lanka will start from August 12, where three Test matches will be played till September 1.
He will, however, join the team on a week later i.e. on August 12. “He had informed the BCCI about it and as we concluded the BCCI schedule a touch late, he had effectively taken authorization to edge the early section”, a BCCI authority said.
