Nokia to do a global launch of new Android smartphones in 2017
The existence of the new handsets was officially revealed last week, when a corporate presentation mentioned that 2017 would see “Nokia brand’s return to smartphones”.
While we haven’t seen any leaks or teases from Nokia itself, Android Headlines notes that HMD Global will be at MWC 2017. Thus, Nokia will be bringing their products with help of a Finnish company HMD Global, responsible for development and marketeing and Foxconn company from Taiwan will handle R&D and manufacturing.
Never again will a phone be made in a Nokia factory, but the company has assured investors that Nokia-branded phones will be hitting the market in 2017.
We’ve already had reports that the company is working on three or four new Android devices, previously said to be arriving by the end of the year. HMD Global now holds the license to use Nokia branding for the next 10 years. However, Nokia is now free to make a come-back to smartphones, and this has increased the anticipation and excitement among the fans of the world. Ultimately, the Windows Phone platform was not a commercial success despite Microsoft buying Nokia’s smartphone business, seemingly to ensure that at least one manufacturer was supporting Microsoft Windows on a phone device. Reports suggest that both all-metal devices will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 processors, have QHD displays, and run Nokia’s own Z Launcher for Android.
For 2017, a bullet point mentions Nokia’s return to smartphones as well as expanded leadership in virtual reality, patent licensing in various sectors like mobile, automotive, consumer electronics, and transition of the digital health brand. The phone is sporting a 1920 x 1080 pixel screen resolution, comes with a 13MP primary camera and an 8MP front shooter.
Nokia’s Chief Executive Officer Rajeev Suri is likely to unveil the first phone in February 2017.
