NOPD: Gunman shot, injured by police after firing at officers
No officers were injured, but a man was shot in the buttocks during the incident in the 2200 block of Desire Street about 1:10 p.m., Officer Garry Flot of the NOPD said.
A 32-year-old man who shot at a police officer Sunday afternoon will be arrested and charged once he is released from a hospital, New Orleans police said. As police approached the men, one of the suspects pointed a gun at the officers and fired. The other suspect was able to flee the scene. He was taken to a hospital for treatment. Officers recovered the gun used by the injured gunman, as well as, a magazine. The NOPD is investigating whether the vehicle has been involved with other crimes.
The officer who wounded the person was recognized as Jacob Lundy, an eight-year veteran of the pressure. Police say that Lundy will be reassigned pending the investigation. Investigators said four weapons were also recovered from the scene, including a. 45 caliber semi-automatic handgun that was with Fountain. The Public Integrity Bureau is reviewing footage from the firing officer’s body worn camera, according to NOPD. The Independent Police Monitor and Federal Monitor are additionally investigating the incident.
