North Belfast: Homes evacuated after suspicious object found
Homes were evacuated and roads closed after the suspect device was found at Rosapenna Street.
A suspicious object was discovered in the Rosapenna Street area.
The PSNI told Independent.ie that “police are now in attendance at the scene”.
Police Service of Northern Ireland Chief Inspector Gavin Kirkpatrick has appealed for any witnesses to contact detectives at Musgrave Street on the non emergency 101 number.
It has been taken away for further examinations and all roads which were closed during the alert have been reopened.
The Community Centre on Manor Street has been opened for the people who have been evacuated.
North Belfast Sinn Fein assembly member Gerry Kelly has condemned those responsible for the security alert, saying they have “brought nothing but disruption to the area”.
“Incidents like this serve no goal whatsoever and need to stop immediately”.
