North Carolina Central University briefly locked down after student shot, wounded
Police have declared an emergency on the North Carolina Central University campus, saying there is an active shooter in the area.
NCCU sent a tweet from its official account around 11:15 p.m. Sunday that mentioned an “active shooter” and urged students to seek shelter “away from gunfire”. “North Carolina Central University in case anyone is a student and is not aware”.
At 11:55 p.m., NCCU Police said that the lockdown was lifted.
The person who was shot suffered non life-threatening injuries, police said, who did not say exactly where on the campus the shooting happened.
The shooting took place on East Lawson Street, which is close to Alston Avenue, where the campus stadium and parking deck are located. The shooter is still at large and is still being pursued, according to Durham police, WNCN reported.
