North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory Concedes Super Close Race
The order backed the request from Republicans and McCrory’s campaign. The McCrory campaign had demanded the recount, citing technical glitches on election day. Pat McCrory’s support of it was proof he was catering to social conservatives instead of looking out for the state’s best interests.
“It may appear to folks in the public that we have a systemic issue of voter fraud”, she said.
The law known as House Bill 2, or HB2, prevented local nondiscrimination ordinances created to protect LGBT people. Transgender people can’t use bathrooms and changing facilities that correspond to their gender identity, unless they get their biological sex on their birth certificate changed.

McCrory assumed office as North Carolina’s governor in 2013.

Gay rights groups that made McCrory’s defeat this year a top priority because of a law limiting LGBT rights that he signed are celebrating after his concession to Cooper.
“While this was a divisive election season, I know still that there is more that unites us than divides us”, Mr. Cooper said in a statement. On Monday morning, Bill Brian, the Republican chairman of the Durham County Board of Elections, said there was an “extraordinarily low variation” from the original vote count, according to The News & Observer. The results are being certified and will be sent to state officials.
Pat McCrory, the choice of gun rights advocacy groups, conceded Monday to Democratic candidate Roy Cooper after almost a month of claiming voter fraud and asking for recounts.
Pat McCrory released a video message on Monday confirming that he now believes the only possible outcome is that Cooper will officially become the next governor and will accordingly put aside his challenge to retain his seat. Cooper is the outgoing attorney general.
Rhonda Amoroso, a Republican member of the State Board of Elections, said the governor’s complaints could have a troubling impact more broadly.
Cooper finished Election Night with more votes than McCrory and declared victory, but there were still absentee and provisional ballots to be counted. But partial results of the recount showed virtually 100% accuracy in the original tabulation. Pat McCrory’s total stayed the same.
Mecklenburg County Commissioner Jim Puckett says he spent two years trying to tell McCrory he’d lose the election because of the toll lane project, and he now expects Cooper will cancel the contract.
“Thank you for the honor to serve the great state of North Carolina”, he ended.
The Republican governor trailed Cooper by about 10,000 votes. Richard Burr and Lt. Gov. Dan Forest won their re-election bids.
Stark defended his push for the recount, saying there was anecdotal evidence of Durham County tabulator machines being left unsecured, plus a process that didn’t unfold as expected.
In Democratic-leaning Guilford County, where McCrory grew up in Jamestown as a child transplanted from OH, the governor performed well four years ago when he was elected statewide by 11 percentage points over former Democratic Lt. Gov. Walter Dalton.
