North Charleston Waffle House robbery thwarted by gun-toting customer
A preliminary investigation reveals a customer wounded the armed suspect during the incident, NCPD Lt. Angela Johnson said.
According to the WCSC Channel 5, police say 19-year-old Joshua Jermaine Davis of North Charleston entered the Waffle House restaurant on Dorchester Road shortly after 5 a.m. Saturday morning and pulled a gun on the staff, demanding money. Emergency responders rushed the would-be robber to Medical University Hospital where he died of his injuries. The customer has a valid concealed weapons permit and no charges have been filed against the customer, but police are still investigating, Johnson said. “He saved us, that’s what he did”, a Waffle House employee said. Ongoing efforts by the Charleston County Coroner’s Office and the North Charleston Police Department to identify the suspect have been unsuccessful, Johnson said. “No one was injured – besides the suspect”.
Four days before he was shot and killed, Davis posted a picture of a police vehicle and wrote, “We see Ya nigga”. He leaves a young boy. Division manager Brandon Rogers said nothing was stolen from the restaurant. “We continue to believe this is the best policy for the safety of our customers and associates”.
