North Korea, China leaders agree to boost ‘strategic, tactical’ cooperation – KCNA

One official said “a sizable number” of remains were expected to be handed over, but declined to give a specific number given the unpredictability of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.
Shin Beom-chul, a senior fellow at the Seoul-based Asan Institute for Policy Studies, said Kim and Xi were likely seeking “common ground” following the Singapore summit.
China has touted the prospects of more trade and investment if North Korea makes progress in talks on abandoning its nuclear weapons and long-range missile programs.
With U.S. -China trade ties on the rocks, Kim is well positioned to play both powers, talking sweet to Trump while pursuing a closer relationship with Xi.
It comes less than a fortnight after his historic summit with Kim Jong-un in Singapore. “There was nothing new in the Singapore communique… each of the four major components was in previous accords with North Korea and were stronger or more encompassing in the previous iterations”.
Noting that Kim has paid three visits to China within 100 days to meet with him, Xi said the two sides have jointly created a new history of China-DPRK high-level exchanges.
A Japanese paper later reported that Kim had praised Pompeo for his bravery during that meeting.
The summit not only relieved significant pressure on North Korea but also scaled back the American military threat in China’s backyard.
The second day of Kim’s visit to Beijing was all about economic tutelage.
Bill Richardson, the former USA energy secretary, ambassador and repeat U.S. envoy to North Korea, told CNN: ‘I think China is sending a message to Trump: You want to put trade tariffs on us and have our cooperation with North Korea?
But the problem is that there is no consensus on what “denuclearization” means.
The United States launched 33 investigative and recovery missions into North Korea between 1996 and 2005, but those efforts ended as the political situation between Washington and Pyongyang deteriorated. He said it could be considered “almost treasonous”.
“This is not something that within a couple of months we will have 200 service members identified”, she said. The U.S. says China is in agreement on that point, although Chinese officials have repeatedly stated that sanctions should not be considered an end to their own.
“It seems like the economy is one of its major areas of interest”, he said, adding that Pyongyang appeared to be focusing its efforts on cooperating with China in a bid to bring about an end to the United Nations sanctions.
