North Korea claims it’s now able to nuke US mainland

Tensions have also increased recently in the lead up to annual joint U.S. -ROK military exercises, which commenced on Monday and will continue until September 2. It said Seoul, Washington, and Tokyo believe the North will make haste to build a nuclear-powered submarine from which it can strike the US mainland.

Joel Wit, a former U.S. nuclear negotiator with North Korea, says he’s concerned, but not anxious.
Malaysian counselor Johan Ariff Abd Razak, whose country holds the council presidency, said Thursday the United States circulated a draft statement to members and China asked for more time to consider it.
North Korea fired two missiles from submarines earlier this year, but South Korean defense officials believe they exploded in midair after flying less than 30 kilometers (18 miles).
Kim Jong-un was reportedly also fuming after one of North Korea’s winning gymnasts broke the code to pose for a selfie with a South Korean gymnast.
However, North Korea’s 31 athletes, who participated in nine sports, won two gold medals, three silvers and two bronzes in Rio Olympics.
“Children tended to pester [teachers] to show new, interesting videos again after their release, but we had difficulty in dealing with it”, Kim Geun Hee, a teacher at Sariwon orphanage, said in the KCTV report, according to NK News.
Regardless of the global condemnation or their actions potentially bringing more instability rather than stability, for themselves and the region as a whole, North Korea will undoubtedly continue developing its nuclear program.
