North Korea Mocks Trump’s ‘Nuclear Button’ Tweet as ‘Spasm of a Lunatic’
North Korea lashed out at President Donald Trump on Tuesday for a previous tweet mocking dictator Kim Jong Un’s “nuclear button”.
Defense Secretary Jim Mattis has repeatedly insisted that efforts to resolve the North Korea crisis should be diplomatically led, though he has said the Pentagon always plans for any contingency.
White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders sent out a tweet accusing the WSJ of “falsely quoting President Trump”.
Tensions have been high between the United States and North Korea after the North staged a flurry of nuclear and missile tests, and Kim Jong-un traded threats of war and personal attacks with Trump.
The White House released a portion of the audio from the interview that it said showed Trump said “I’d”. After the end of the cold war and with the disintegration of erstwhile Soviet Union, the possibility of nuclear conflict breaking out in the world had considerably come down. The WSJ interview is just one example from last week.
