“While the team had placed a franchise tag on him in the offseason, Pierre-Paul never signed the tender and is, at the moment, unsigned”, added the same report. “At least I know where I come from, ‘” witness Angel Huertas offered. It’s been good to me.

Pierre-Paul had two tackles and two quarterback hits in his first action since the July 4 fireworks accident that sidelined him for training camp and the first eight games.

His biggest adjustment was starting plays with his left hand on the turf, rather than the right hand he had always put down before the injury. “I’m not flawless right now”.

He played in 73% of the Giants’ defensive snaps.

Tampa Bay outgained the Giants 385 to 327 in the game but committed three turnovers to just two from the Giants.

The game was a homecoming of sorts for Pierre-Paul, who played in college at South Florida. He continued to rehab at home, while defensive-line coach Robert Nunn kept him posted on the playbook of new defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo.

With fresh legs, Pierre-Paul started and finished strong. Among the many questions raised by this incident is: given that the Giants won the game, 32-18, what would the guy have done if NY had lost?

Manning was intercepted on the first play of the game – off the hands of wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. and to Bucs cornerback Sterling Moore, setting Tampa Bay up at the NY 13-yard line.

Winston and the Buccaneers’ offense also continued an interesting recent trend of improving significantly on third down tries after halftime.

THE DRIVE: Clinging to a 23-18 lead, the Giants forced a punt to get the ball back with 4:57 to play in the fourth quarter.

K Connor Barth accounted for two thirds of the Bucs’ scoring on Sunday against the Giants by making four of five field goal attempts, including a 53-yarder in the third quarter. In that span, the averages are 33.3% in the first half and 58.1% in the second half.

Winston completed 19 of 36 passes for 249 yards with no touchdowns and no interceptions. But his two-point-conversation pass was out of bounds, so the Giants still led 20-18.

Giants star Eli Manning called him a “presence” on the field.

But the plays Evans did make added up to what was more or less a career day for the second-year wideout.

If an emotional and memorable Sunday is any indication of what is to come, Pierre-Paul might just be able to lift the Giants to heights no one expects them to reach, either.
