North Shore Terry Fox Runs set for Sunday
Three months after Fox died, Sharpe hosted the first Terry Fox run, on Sept 13, 1981.
Two Terry Fox runs in Scarborough on Sunday, Sept. 20, will continue to move Fox’s cause forward.
The goal this year is to raise $35 million nationwide, which works out to a dollar from every Canadian, the same goal Terry had when he began his Marathon of Hope.
Terry Fox is a Canadian hero who began his Marathon of Hope at the age of 21.
When Terry set out on his epic run, he said, “I’m not a dreamer, and I’m not saying this will initiate any kind of definitive answer or cure to cancer, but I believe in miracles”.
Lit by a desire to raise money and awareness for cancer research, the young Canadian athlete ran more than halfway across the country to share his message.
The Marathon of Hope has raised more than $650 million in 35 years.

As they did last year, Meaford’s Simply Unique flower and gift shop will be providing yellow balloons to be used as route markers for the run, which will again start off from the Rotary harbour pavilion.
He succumbed to cancer before his cross-country tour could be completed, however. I’m not special. This just intensifies what I did.
Stoneman says besides the Orillia run on Sunday, Terry Fox Community runs will take place in Barrie, the Sugarbush in Oro Medonte, Lagoon City, Beaverton, Midland and Gravenhurst. The fact that nearly everyone knows someone who is fighting cancer or who has fought it, means that it affects a staggering number of people and is why his legacy, what he inspired in people, has remained 35 years later.
