North Texas campus officer shoots, kills ax-wielding student
An axe-wielding University of North Texas hospitality student has been killed by police following a confrontation on campus that terrorized students.
Ryan McMillan, 21, of Fort Worth, Texas, was a second-year transfer student at the University of North Texas in Denton, according to the Dallas Morning News.
Denton Police Department spokesman Officer Ryan Grelle said Denton’s emergency dispatchers received at least one 911 call between 12:30 a.m. and 1 a.m. Sunday reporting that someone was knocking out auto windows near the U Centre at Fry Street, formerly known as Sterling at Fry Street.
When the officer arrived, the suspect approached him with the ax in his hand, Venegas said. The Ranger was assigned to take over the investigation of the officer-involved shooting, reporter Dalton LaFerney wrote. “According to UNT Police Chief Ed Reynolds, our police department is cooperating fully in the investigations being conducted by the Texas Rangers and the Denton Police Department”. He had turned 21 a few hours before. The student refused to do so, and ran towards the street.
A USA policeman in the state of Texas has shot and killed a student suspected of vandalism, amid more deadly gun violence in the country. “I want to drive to Denton and scream at the top of my lungs at the police department, but that’s stupid and irrational”. Willcox said he heard approximately five or six shots fired before he went into his apartment.
University of North Texas President Neal Smatresk sent out a statement on Sunday. “We offer our condolences to the individuals, their families and all involved”, Smatresk said in a statement Sunday. He died at a hospital at 1:33 a.m MT (0833 GMT), according to the examiner’s report. KDFW reported that university police were asked to respond to the situation because local police in the town of Denton were busy handling other calls.
