Northern Arizona wildfire grows to 9 square miles
Officials and residents near the area are calling it the One Willow Fire.
Winds have increased this afternoon, fueling the fire’s growth.
The evacuation issued Sunday marks the second such order this weekend and brings the number of evacuated homes in the Topock area near the Arizona-California line up to 850.
Evacuations are in place for Topock Lake Rancheros, River Delta Subdivisions, Aqua View, Tangerine Terrace, River View and Marina Coves, totaling approximately 850 homes in the Mohave Valley, according to the Arizona Emergency Information Network (AZEIN) website.
The U.S. Bureau of Land Management has been using aircraft to combat the fire, agency spokeswoman Dolores Garcia said. “Some reports have said 4 and others have said 20 structures”.
Crews near the evacuated homes were clearing away brush around the neighborhoods in a bid to blunt the fire. The large-capacity DC-10 air tanker out of San Bernardino, Calif., was used Saturday for some drops. The fire started at around 10:00 am Saturday morning. There was no estimate for how long it would take to contain the fire, Garcia said, and no injuries have been reported. She said she did not know if any Nevada firefighters were involved.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Officials plan to complete the transition to a Type 2 Incident Command Team.
