Northern Ireland legend David Healy expected to be named new Linfield boss
Those fears may be allayed this evening however as it appears that there will be good news for Linfield fans, one in particular, as life-long supporter and legend of the game in Northern Ireland David Healy is being heavily tipped to take over the job.
Ecstatic Blues fans cheered him to the rafters of Windsor Park as the former Northern Ireland record scorer was paraded before them.
Healy had spells at Manchester United, Preston North End, Leeds United, Fulham, Sunderland, Rangers and Bury, but is best known for his goal scoring exploits on the worldwide stage.
The Linfield hot-seat was made vacant by the departure of Feeney.
Healy, who scored 36 goals in 95 Northern Ireland appearances, has signed a two-and-a-half-year contract.
‘It’s an honour and privilege for me to be manager of this football club, ‘ Healy told the Linfield website.
“It’s a famous ground, and as I said a lot of times when I did retire, to the English boys, Wembley was magnificent, but Windsor Park was my Wembley”.
Andy Todd and Alfie Wylie will remain in charge for tonight’s JBE League Cup clash with Ballinamallard United at Windsor.
His record of 13 goals in a single Euro qualifying campaign in 2008 was matched for the first time at the weekend by Poland’s Robert Lewandowski.
The former Northern Ireland striker did not take charge for Wednesday’s League Cup game where Jonny Lafferty’s 70th-minute goal earned the Fermanagh club a surprise 1-0 win.
However, Saturday’s 1-1 draw against Glentoran saw the Blues lose the top spot to Crusaders.
