Norwich agree loan of Liverpool defender Andre Wisdom
Norwich have agreed a loan deal for Liverpool defender Andre Wisdom, Press Association Sport understands.
As a result, the 22-year-old is close to agreeing terms on a temporary 12 month stay at Norwich – who were promoted to the Premier League via the play-offs last season – with the Reds receiving a £1.25 million fee for the Englishman’s services.
Wisdom spent the bulk of the 2013-14 campaign on loan at Derby County and was last season loaned to West Bromwich Albion where, after an encouraging start under Alan Irvine, he lost his place after Tony Pulis became manager and made only two appearances, both as a substitute, after 31 January.
Wisdom, who has been on Liverpool’s books since he was 14, signed a four-year contract in May following a season on loan at West Brom.
Though Wisdom has looked a promising talent, he seems stuck between positions at Liverpool-not fast enough to have a future at fullback, where he has spent much of his time in recent seasons, but too far down the pecking order at centre half to be in the running for minutes. Furthermore, the newspaper report the move is to be confirmed in days. It didn’t help, either, that 18-year-old Joe Gomez arrived this summer and impressed massively during pre-season.
Wisdom signed for Liverpool as a 14-year-old from Bradford City and was handed his debut by Brendan Rodgers in September 2012, scoring in a 5-3 Europa League win at Young Boys.
