“Not a lock” that Jason Witten plays this week
“[Witten] will be day-to-day all week, but he’s not a lock [to play] at this point”, a source told Werder. ESPN’s Ed Werder, citing National Football League sources, indicates that Witten isn’t certain to suit up against Dan Quinn’s Falcons this weekend.
Much of the Cowboys success last season predicated on the running game, and coach Jason Garrett acknowledged it must improve going forward. He still finished the game, but afterwards it was confirmed that Witten is playing with sprained ankles and a sprained knee.
Witten confessed he was injured Sunday but termed the three different issues “typical football stuff”. Witten has been one of he most productive players of his era, a sure-fire Hall of Famer when Witten decides to hang up the cleats.
The Dallas Cowboys are 2-0 and leading the NFC East, but all is certainly not well. He has only missed one game during his career and it was early on with a broken jaw. He played all 71 offensive plays in the season opener against the Giants and was on the field for 82 of the Cowboys’ 85 offensive plays against the Eagles. This was after the star tight end had ruptured his spleen during the preseason.
