In memory of Diesel, the police dog killed by a suicide bomber on Wednesday, Russian government officials this week donated and sent Diesel’s replacement to help “in the fight against terrorism”.
Gunfire and up to seven explosions ripped through the Paris air in the early hours of this morning after police closed in on up to six terror suspects in an apartment in Saint Denis.
With solid information about the raid still scarce and a large area still cordoned off, the tweet was shared thousands of times in a matter of minutes.
Authorities of the Police National sadly announced the death of a Belgian Malinois police canine officer on a tweet stating Diesel “was killed by attackers” Wednesday afternoon. For her faithful service, Diesel is being hailed a hero, receiving a flood of tributes on social media with the hashtag #JeSuisChien.
The Russian minister for internal affairs, Vladimir Kolokoltsez, sent a letter to his French counterpart, Bernard Cazeneuve, offering the puppy as an expression of Russia’s solidarity with France.
Diesel was then killed when a jihadi emerged from the building carrying an AK-47, before she then detonated her suicide vest. BuzzFeed curated several examples of posts from pet-lovers but noted that police apparently haven’t released photos of the Diesel herself.
The siege ended with two deaths and seven arrests but no clear information on the fugitive’s fate.
Cellphone records and surveillance gathered since Friday’s attack led police to believe the alleged mastermind of the attacks may have been in an apartment in Saint-Denis, Paris prosecutor Francois Molins said today.
