Not guilty pleas filed for Oklahoma teens in stabbings
The judge set an October 28th Preliminary hearing date for the brothers.
Officers found fresh footprints, and eventually arrested 16-year-old Michael Bever and 18-year-old Robert Bever for the crimes. Their attorney, public defender Rob Nigh, who has represented high-profile clients in the past, including Oklahoma City bomber Timothy McVeigh, was in the courtroom.
Authorities say both boys are charged as adults.
All of the victims were stabbed to death.
The state medical examiner identified the dead as David Bever, 52; his wife April Bever, 44; and their children Daniel Bever, 12, Christopher Bever, 7, and Victoria Bever, 5.
Tulsa County District Judge Doris Fransein, who oversees the juvenile division, has said neither suspect had a criminal history.
The brothers are charged with five counts of first-degree murder each in the July 22 deaths of their parents, two brothers and a sister at their home in Broken Arrow, a Tulsa suburb. Police went to the home and discovered blood on the front porch and heard a voice inside asking for help.
Officers forced entry and found the Bevers’ 13-year-old sister suffering from multiple stab wounds. Despite being critically injured, the girl told police that her eldest brothers had attacked her family.
Officials also found a 2-year-old girl, who was unharmed, inside the home.
