Nothing compares: Chelsea win best result in Bournemouth history – Howe
The record books may suggest that Bournemouth have now gone eight games without a win in the Premier League, but last weekend’s 3-3 draw at home to Everton would have no doubt felt like a victory for Eddie Howe’s men.
Cherries chief Howe has been forced to drop third-choice Allsop in at the deep end against the likes of Diego Costa and Eden Hazard at Stamford Bridge on Saturday – with Adam Federici and Artur Boruc crocked.
And Howe said: “It must rank as the best individual result in the club’s history”.
“You hope a result like that can really boost the confidence of the players and that belief system you need to win games or get a point”.
“I think you want to see some kind of reaction from players”.
Howe admitted: “I did not expect to be so close to them but I think they are in a false position and I think they will climb the league”.
“Naturally it is a really good challenge for all of us”.
Football League World Writer, Ashley Williams looks at FIVE players Bournemouth need to offload to the Championship… For me they are one of the best teams in the country.
‘You’ve always got to fancy your chances, they were more nervous than us and we’ve done great.
Bournemouth have been hit hard by injuries this season, with striker Callum Wilson, winger Max Gradel and defender Tyrone Mings all suffering long-term setbacks.
“I think we were aware of that so we’ve gone away and tried to find solutions to the problems we’ve had”.
The Cherries offer inspiration to any small club that it is not a pipe dream to reach the Premier League and compete with some of the top sides in the country.
Bournemouth have been steadily improving over the last month, drawing the last two games, and victory over the champions could move them out of the relegation zone.
“I thought we were magnificent defensively, our goalkeeper [Artur Boruc] played a big part in that”.
“Maybe from that perspective we are meeting them a few weeks too late, but from our perspective we are in a good place”. We’re on a massive high after this game and it’s now up to us to keep on putting in performances’.
