Notifications Can Keep Track Of Where You Parked Your Car
Tapping out your current address is time consuming.
Which is where Google Maps could prove to be invaluable. The feature can be turned off at any time by the user. Google has sought to allay concerns that friends could stalk your progress by making it obvious when location sharing is turned on.
Location sharing isn’t novel. Both iPhone and Android phone users will be able to share their locations with their contacts, and those who are on the receiving end will be able to see the locations of their friends on mobile web and desktops in addition to iPhones and Android devices. But there’s something to be said for convenience. To use the feature, users will have to sign into the Maps app or the capability will not be available, even after installing the beta.
Drivers have probably always experienced the panicky feeling when you suddenly forget where you parked. Tap that same menu to turn off sharing. Well it simply means that once this feature is rolled out you will be able to choose who you want to share your location with and for how long.
The new tool allows you to store you location data and set a timer for when you need to have returned to your vehicle. It allows you to insert photos that will remind you of the surroundings. During your next trip, tap the “More” button on the bottom on the navigation screen, and then tap ‘Share trip.’ When you share your trip with people, they’ll see your expected arrival time and can follow your journey as you head toward your destination. So, after parking users can key in how long they have left.
Google today announced that Google Maps will support real-time location sharing. When someone shares their location with you, you’ll have the option of reciprocating by sharing your own location, or pulling up directions to the person’s address.
Now Google Maps is looking at something more accurate, too, with a little help from the user.
The friends you’ve shared with are then sent a link that opens inside Google Maps and shows your location as you finish your trip. It’s a bit like Apple’s Find My Friends app, but we think it’ll be way more useful built into Maps rather than needing to keep in mind to open a second app.
