Notre Dame Fighting Irish Rumors: Running back Tarean Folston tears MCL and
Notre Dame, just about flouting a perspiration, coiled 38-3.
Folston ran for 889 yards on 175 carries a year ago, and was expected to take on a heavier load this season. He is as good as advertised and will only continue to get better. His fastball was impressive. The loss was an embarrassing start for Texas in year 2 under Strong who is looking to build some positive momentum within the program to avoid an uncomfortably warm seat next offseason.
Now, it’s time to take coaching. Jerrod Heard completed one pass for ten yards. And that’s good enough for now. You never want a player on our team to get hurt.
Notre Dame improved to 17-0 under Kelly when committing zero turnovers in a game. None of it rang true Saturday night in South Bend. “It’s the first one of the season”.
Texas didn’t make it inside the Irish red zone. That’s their best record against Power 5 conferences. “You would’ve figured that we would’ve come out and played much better than we did”.
Will Fuller.
But, the key element was that Zaire found Fuller and connected.
Yoon has been drawing praise from Kelly, who says the freshman has been making nearly 80 percent of his attempts from 40 to 49 yards. Twice the Irish called timeout to avoid a delay of game, but rarely was it an issue otherwise. He finished the first half with just three carries for 18 yards.
Prosise had 20 carries for 98 yards. But the Thundering Herd needed some late help.
Yeah, Darrell Royal was legendary for the Longhorns and everything, but for those Texas assistant coaches with wide eyes and clicking cameras, this was the House That Rockne Built…
Fuller had two touchdown catches, Chris Brown had one scoring catch, and freshman Josh Adams ran for a pair of TDs, including 14-yard score on his first career carry.
Notre Dame running back Josh Adams runs for a touchdown during the…
“I was hoping I’d see a big difference myself”, Strong joked Monday.
Adams has a mix of size and speed that’s intriguing. This season, the Irish have tough games at Clemson and at Stanford and they will also host USC. That didn’t go unnoticed.
So they agonized over which quarterback to start, about how many freshmen to play, about who to use on punt returns.
Notre Dame quarterback Malik Zaire, left, hands off to running back… Gray getting the football 20 times will surely be no coincidence.
Left tackle Connor Williams moved to the other side for an unbalanced front, but the added beef was useless, and Daje Johnson was dropped backward for five yards on a jetsweep. Tarean Folston’s injury, if he’s out for any significant time (and there was little to suggest he won’t be), really, really sucks. You can’t feel anything but bad for Folston, who tore his ACL on his third carry of the season. But Prosise looked the part of an every-down back. For Notre Dame’s depth chart, which has now lost Folston and Greg Bryant from the spring roster.
The Irish offense didn’t need to be almost as dominant.
“Coming out here to Notre Dame, great atmosphere, the stage is set”, Gray said. “I think he’s a terrific back”. Well, it was – if you’re a Notre Dame fan. He knew what he had to do and went out there and executed the game plan, and it worked out. Pitt star James Connor is lost for the year with a knee injury. Prosise, for instance, was expecting a different handoff once and has a few adjustments to make in pass protection, per Kelly. But the injuries certainly chip away at the team’s biggest strength.
