Notre Dame’s Butler charged; accused of tackling officer
The Indiana State Police was assisted by officers from the Fulton County Sheriff’s Department.
When the officer who intiated the traffic stop approached the vehicle he smelled the odor of marijuana emanating from the auto, a police dog was then utilized to conduct a “free air sniff” around the vehicle, which indicated the presence of illegal narcotics.
Butler is now being housed in the St. Joseph County Jail, his bond was set at $10,000 Corporate surety or $1,000 cash.
Butler was arrested on charges of battery to law enforcement and resisting law enforcement after an incident outside of a drinking establishment just off the South Bend school’s campus.

Kelly’s move does not spare Stepherson, Coney, Williams or White from University punishments, which could be ineligibility, suspension or dismissal.
After officers broke up a fight inside the Linebacker Lounge, they saw two women fighting outside when Butler allegedly shoved one of the women, according to the probable cause report. They said the officer Butler tackled was treated at a hospital for injuries to his elbow, neck, back and arm.
Butler was arrested and jailed after the altercation. That ended up working out alright for Notre Dame and Keivarae Russell.
Butler, a senior, fractured his foot in late December a few days before the Fiesta Bowl.
Butler, who started twice as a sophomore in 2014, played in 12 games for Notre Dame last season, starting the regular-season finale against Stanford.
The incidents at Notre Dame, one of the most prestigious Catholic universities in the country, added to a long list of criminal allegations leveled against collegiate athletes in recent years, raising calls for harsher sanctions against players found guilty of violations.
