Notre Dame WR Will Fuller’s tweet catches Clemson’s eye
Clemson had a bye last week, and when they take the field against Notre Dame it’ll be their first contest in 16 days.
The Notre Dame Fighting Irish play the Clemson Tigers in one of the most anticipated college football games on Saturday, October 3 start time at 8:00 PM ET, at Memorial Stadium, Clemson, SC.
Joining us is Shakin the Southland’s Brian Lewis.
“I actually favorited that tweet”. Those games offer no relevant data whatsoever about Clemson’s worthiness to get into the playoff. There will be a ton of recruits in the house and I don’t have to tell everyone how this is such a must-win game for Notre Dame even if they come in with a 5-1 record.
Kudos to Clemson for reserving a spot on its schedule every year to play an in-state team from a lower division and helping fund those schools’ athletic departments, but let’s get real. I think he manages the game extremely well and does what the offense asks of him.
The staff has definitely held a few things back, but I think that is also because of our opponents.
“We don’t want to be one of those teams (that underperforms), because we’ve got something good going and we’re determined to keep it”. That’s because of all the serious injuries the team has suffered this season. The offense (on paper) struggled moving the ball against Appalachian State, and against Louisville it was the defense that seemed to thrive.
This year the biggest surprise has been the running game. Our mindset doesn’t change with out program because best is the standard, so it doesn’t matter who we play. “When I came up here over the summer, I knew I wanted to come here”.
Defensively, the game against Louisville sticks out.
Thursday night games are always tricky on the road, especially for Clemson.
“They’re getting a bit chippy”. Maybe not so much from a standpoint of proving things to the rest of the country but the Sooners had already lost that season and while they were a very good team they squeaked out several victories to a 10-3 campaign in a very down year for the Big 12.
Despite the accomplishments of the past 4 years, I doubt you haven’t seen the lack of respect for the program. A 46-yard touchdown grab was his fourth TD catch of the season.
I’m honestly not that anxious about Fuller.
Marquette is looking for its first win against the Fighting Irish since 2011, despite playing Notre Dame each of the last five seasons. It helps that he’s running behind an experienced, dominant offensive line. Kelly singled out Quarterback DeShaun Watson, Wide Receiver Artavis Scott and Defensive End Shaq Lawson. “It looked like a cross and hit the far post and went in and everyone was surprised it went in to tie it up”. Specifically from an athleticism POV?
They didn’t finish it impressively, but No. 8 Notre Dame sent a message Saturday with a 30-22 victory against No. 14 Georgia Tech. Is this where you expect the Tigers to attack? “After the kickoff, we’ll see if he still has that same mindset”. A minute later, Hodan scored his first goal of the season after Evan Panken stopped an attempted clearance at the top of the penalty area. We can take those teams. The big worry has been his timing and accuracy. “Just have to be patient and stay confident and be humble and learn from those older guys that are in front of you”. The receiver has a silly amount of speed and is used on all sorts of sweeps and pitches.
However, even with all of the buildup surrounding the game, Watson isn’t ready to say this is the biggest game he’s played in during his young career.
But Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly wasn’t about to shun the attention this week’s game at No. 12 Clemson brings with it. Cameras from ESPN and Showtime milled about campus Tuesday in anticipation of Saturday’s matchup of top-12 teams in Death Valley, with which Kelly isn’t familiar.
