Novak Djokovic, Serena Williams Top Seeds at Australian Open
In Djokovic’s two previous appearances at the summer Olympics the 10-time major champion has come up agonisingly short in pursuit of gold.
“I played against a player who did everything flawless”.
World number one Djokovic holds three of the four grand slam crowns after a dominant 2015 and started the new season with a bang last week, thrashing Rafa Nadal in straight sets to win the Qatar Open.
“I would definitely like to meet Usain Bolt, because I never have”, he said.
Nadal had to retire from his 2010 quarter-final against Andy Murray with a knee injury before his rare quest for a non-calendar-year grand slam sweep the following year was thwarted by a hamstring tear suffered in the semi-finals against countryman David Ferrer.
Meanwhile, the 2016 Australian Open will bring in a pack of top talented tennis players from around the globe, headlined by the likes of Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray, Roger Federer, Stan Wawrinka and Rafael Nadal.
“When you think about it it’s exactly like a movie script. It’s exactly how you’d wish for things to go…so I think it was in favour of us getting together in the relationship.”
“My number one goal is to try and win here”, Murray, who lost to Djokovic in the final round of last year’s Australian Open, told Sky Sports.
Murray, who is searching for his third Grand Slam title, will avoid facing reigning champion Novak Djokovic until the final as they are in the opposite halves of the draw. “That means going there earlier, and becoming used to those conditions so that I can get the best out of myself”. “Plus he’s played well there historically”. I know nobody playing tennis like this ever.
Djokovic is a hot favourite to follow up his extraordinary 2015 season with an unprecedented sixth men’s Open triumph in Melbourne.
The Manacor native has not won the Australian Open in six years. The Spaniard is just happy that he’s back as a top five player in the world.
