Now, Facebook tells you where to party
Another feature is the “suggested for you” section that is compiled based on your personal data available with Facebook.
For a rarely used feature at first, Facebook Events quickly became the most powerful tool in party invitations, and it is now taking an omniscient view of the landscape.
Facebook took more steps to make events easier to discover with the release of a new feature for iOS.
Users running the iOS app can find the changes by opening the app and heading into the Events dashboard.
You can choose any section and Facebook will flash options for you with all the information about the event. That’s probably why you’ve seen more public events in your feed, as well as random notifications that one of your friends will be attending an event near you. The results will be categorized into some main sections, such as Nightlife, Music, Sports & Fitness, and similar. These can all be sorted by date to find the right place for the right time. For example facebook already knows your location and don not have to enter your city every time. DoStuff has representatives in all the major U.S. cities culling through the endless crappy club night listings to suggest the best stuff…to do, regardless of category.
Facebook has also reported (via Wired) that more folks are creating events and more people are RSVPing them, while continuing to frequent the pages for photos and reflection once the event is over. “If Facebook can unlock that, and also encourage my friends to go, it will have an easy advantage”.
And for extroverts on the move, you can now adjust your location to see what’s happening in whatever city you’re in, or peek at parties in distant lands.
Truth be told, Facebook has allowed users to search for nearby events for quite a while.
After launching the Events section over a year ago, Facebook was focused on private parties. Facebook knows only too well that more people on their site mean more revenue for them.
