Now You See It: Firefighter takes down robber
Video from CBS DFW shows the robber pushing past the firefighter to make his way to the counter.
On June 26, officers were called to a Midlothian gas station after a man attempted to rob the clerk. And now, Daniel Gaskey is being hailed as a hero. Gaskey, at first, moves back and puts his hand in the air, apparently mistaking the man, identified by police as Dylan Bearden, for an impatient customer.
Mansfield Fire Chief Barry Bondurant confirmed Gaskey as the man in the video.
Gaskey, an off-duty Mansfield firefighter who served in the Marines, decides to take matters into his own hands.
“I looked up, and there was a guy standing there with a black mask on”, Gaskey told KXAS-TV, adding that he “pulled out a knife and set it on the counter and told the lady, ‘Give me your money.'”. Gaskey made quick work of Bearden and took him down.
Note to self: If you plan to rob a store, maybe don’t put the huge firefighter and former Marine in your blind spot.
Bearden faces aggravated robbery charges, and no one was injured in the incident.
