NRA CEO Challenges Obama To One-On-One Debate On Guns
LaPierre said Obama gives “long-winded answers” to “pre-screened questions”.
The idea of a debate between two heavyweights on guns has drawn enormous approval from the NRA’s supporters, but it remains to be seen if Obama will accept the challenge.
“But I’ll tell you what”, he said in the video. “But more than anything, they have never feared for America’s future like they do right now”. LaPierre pointed specifically to Chicago, which has a notorious reputation for crime and gang activity despite its strict gun control laws. With the National Rifle Association having contributed $31 million during that same cycle, however, proponents of firearm safety saw their lobbying efforts greatly outmatched by Second Amendment advocacy groups opposed to new gun laws.
In late December, a gun-control activist apparently posted an F-word-laden rant directed at the NRA, lawmakers and police – and about a week later seemingly the same person was invited by the White House to meet President Barack Obama. “There’s a reason that the NRA isn’t here”, said Obama at the town hall last Thursday, reports The New York Daily News.
She then went on to attack “police officers who undertook a job that carries inherent risk but think any perceived threat to them whatsoever justifies instantaneous lethal force” and the NRA for “greasing this machine … with the blood of American children”.
Mark Wilson/Getty Images NRA head Wayne LaPierre challenged President Obama to a debate on guns, saying Americans are growing exhausted of the Commander-in-Chief. “No pre-screened questions and no gas bag answers”.
“When it comes to the runaway power of the executive branch over Congress, the courts, the people and the rule of law … the president has laid waste to the America we remember.”
When Cooper asked Obama if he would meet with the NRA Obama responded, “Anderson, I’ve said this repeatedly, I’m happy to meet with them, happy to talk to them, but the conversation has to be based on facts and truth”.
“It is only a matter of time before he makes an example out of someone”. Obama even announced a federal gun force that will be four times the size of the Special Forces units he deployed against ISIS terrorists.
