NRMA demands action on 90000 VW cars
The ministry says it’s expected the company take action to make sure impacted cars meet the province’s rules on emissions levels.
The ministry says it expects Volkswagen to ensure all 35,000 of the affected vehicles it sold in the province will comply with future provincial emissions tests, while “minimizing any inconvenience and costs to owners”.
The defeat software turned off specific emissions control systems resulting in nitrogen oxide emissions exceeding standards by up to 40 times.
VOLKSWAGEN Group Australia (VGA) has announced an online tool so Australian VW and Skoda owners can discover if their vehicles have the EA189 diesel engines caught up in the Group’s global emissions scandal.
That’s because the vehicles may not go as fast or be as fuel efficient once the fix has been done.
“Until a technical solution is made available, customers do not need to act however are encouraged to check their vehicle using the VIN check tool, or contact the company’s 24 hour 1800 50 AUDI (2834) Customer Information Line”, the company said.
Two weeks ago, Volkswagen Canada stopped selling all TDI models after the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) exposed the elaborate ruse. CEO Matthias Mueller told the daily Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung: “It will hopefully be fewer, but in any case still far too many”.
“There’s a lot more to go with this saga yet”, he said. “All the cars should be in order by the end of 2016”.
Thomas Tetzlaff, a spokesman for Volkswagen Canada, said in an e-mail that the company will “co-operate fully” with the investigation.
“It is important for customers to note that all affected vehicles remain technically safe and drivable and that we will contact them in time to advise what the next steps are”, said Mr White.
