NSA talks: Sartaj Aziz to visit India on August 23
“The impediment to greater and more enhanced cooperation between Iran and Pakistan will have been removed, through the removal of sanctions and that is why the work on the Iran-Pakistan pipeline could go ahead more expeditiously”, he said following talks with Aziz and Pakistan’s Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
India said it had not yet received any “confirmation” from Islamabad on the talks.
In Pakistan, Defence Minister Khwaja Muhammad Asif asked India to “end blame game” and come forward with a fresh mind for peace talks. It was India which suspended the meeting which was scheduled between the two Foreign Secretaries on August 25 past year.
“We do believe that dialogue resolves the issues”, Aziz told reporters in Islamabad.
India and Pakistan agreed to the talks, at the level of national security adviser, in July.
Earlier, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi had agreed that a meeting of the National Security Advisers (NSAs) would be convened to ‘cover all issues related to terrorism into discussions’.
The Pakistan and India talks are deemed very significant after the recent cross-border shelling has left civilian casualties and escalated tensions between the two nuclear neighbors.
