‘NSync, Backstreet Boys creator Lou Pearlman dies in prison
Especially since at least one parent was always around to chaperone and drive the boys.
Pearlman, who was a blimp operator before becoming a music promoter, was considered the mastermind behind the U.S. boy band craze of the 1990s.
His luck continued when he went on to form Justin Timberlake’s group N’SYNC, who went on to take the pop crown from the Backstreet Boys.
Ashley Parker Angel, who found fame in the boyband O-Town after starring in Pearlman’s TV show Making The Band, posted a picture of Pearlman with the group, writing: “Love him or hate him, Lou gave many of us our start. It is also true that I do not own a Neverland Ranch”. “That’s when I realized how powerful Lou was”.
“It’s unfortunate. I wish it could have been another way”, Backstreet Boys member Brian Littrell told the Los Angeles Times in 2014 when asked about Pearlman. He then got them to invest in a phony travel businesses. Pearlman’s attorney argued at the time of sentencing, when Pearlman was 53 years old, that he had “some significant health conditions”.
According to the Federal Bureau of Prisons’ database Pearlman died in custody on Friday.
He will be remembered more for the depth of his success in scamming than his acumen in the music business.
Pearlman was convicted of fraud for running a £230 million Ponzi scheme through his Trans Continental companies.

Inspired by the success of New Kids on the Block, Pearlman brought the Backstreet Boys together in 1993 and *NSYNC in 1995. His search for talent lead him to Littrell, Dorough, Nick Carter, Kevin Richardson and A.J. McLean. He placed a classified ad in the Orlando Sentinel for teen male vocalists, who became the Backstreet Boys.
Via court documents, the band alleged that they had only received $300,000.while Pearlman received millions.
Lance Bass noted that Pearlman wasn’t the best man, but he launched Bass’ career in the entertainment industry.
