Nuke-related sanctions on Iran lifted
U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry acknowledged the deal does not erase all concerns about Iran, saying Saturday that the U.S. “will… remain vigilant in verifying Iran’s compliance”.
Western sanctions on Iran’s nuclear program were lifted after the United Nations nuclear agency certified Saturday that Tehran had met all of its commitments under last year’s landmark agreement with world powers.

Certification by the International Atomic Energy Agency would allow Iran to immediately recoup some $100 billion in assets frozen overseas.
“We have stretched our hands toward the world in a sign of friendship and begun a new chapter in our relations with the world after overcoming all the enmities, scepticism and schemes devised against us”, he said in a statement.
The steps taken by Iran, combined with ultra-close IAEA inspections, extend to at least a year – from a few months previously – how long Iran would need to make one nuclear bomb’s worth of fissile material.
“(The deal’s) proper implementation will be a key contribution to improve regional and worldwide peace, stability and security”.
The US said it was offering clemency to seven Iranians being held in the US for sanctions violation. Kerry was sure to highlight how the milestone marks a victory for the diplomatic strategy.
Speaking in Vienna where he had been holding talks with his Iranian counterpart, Kerry said Iran had “undertaken significant steps” which many people “doubted would ever come to pass”. Benchmark Brent crude closed below $29 on Friday, and may fall further as Iran has pledged to raise its supply after sanctions were lifted. “God willing, in the coming days we will witness a rolling up of the sanctions scroll in this country”, he said.
Iran’s nuclear programme has been substantially rolled back, in return for the lifting of sanctions and the economic benefits that will bring.
Iran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council – Britain, China, France, Russia and the United States – plus Germany finalized the JCPOA in Vienna, on July 14, 2015. “Today will prove that we can solve important problems through diplomacy”.
The European Union and the United States have announced their decision to lift nuclear-related sanctions on Iran.
