In the Philippines, new HIV infections among 15-19 year olds have risen by 50 per cent over four years, from an estimated 800 in 2010 to 1,210 in 2014. With the theme “Getting to zero” this year, signifying zero new HIV infections, zero discrimination and zero aids-related deaths, the day gives an opportunity for people worldwide to unite in the fight against HIV, show their solidarity for people living with HIV and is dedicated to mourn patients who have passed on from HIV/AIDS.
“Today, we reflect on the history of our global efforts against HIV and AIDS, and look forward to a time when future generations will never have to experience the loss, hurt, and isolation of this preventable and treatable condition”.

It called on Governments to provide access to adolescent-sensitive HIV testing and treatment and develop better data and adolescent-specific laws and policies, including comprehensive sex education in schools and through social media, information on where to get an HIV test, and condom use.
Girls in the region are disproportionately affected, accounting for seven of 10 new infections among people 15 to 19 years old, the study found. More than 2,000 people are living with HIV in the El Paso area, and just over 100 were diagnosed in the a year ago.
