Nunes Memo Proves FBI Committed ‘Treason,’ GOP Lawmaker Says
Former FBI Director James Comey publicly slammed the “dishonest and misleading memo” released by House Republicans on Friday, after it was finally declassified by President Donald Trump amid objections, asking his Twitter followers: “That’s it?”
The intelligence committee’s ranking Democrat, California Rep. Adam Schiff, has expressed concern that the memo sent to the White House for review is not the same one his panel approved.
Seeking to defuse the conflict, Republican House Speaker Paul Ryan backed the release of a Democratic counterpoint memo if the Republican document were made public.
Trump called the memo’s contents “a disgrace”. It’s clear that there is more to the story, given the objections of Intelligence Committee Democrats led by California Rep. Adam Schiff, whose competing memo has been bottled up, and, more remarkably, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, now led by a Republican Trump personally chose, Christopher Wray. Democrats said the intent of the memo was to undermine Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s ongoing criminal investigation into the potential collusion with Moscow and whether Trump has committed obstruction of justice in trying to impede the probe. The memo was prepared by Republicans on the House Intelligence Committee based on classified information and alleges the FBI abused USA government surveillance powers in its investigation into Russian election interference.
Trump is expected to clear the way for the publication of a classified memo on the Russian Federation investigation that Republicans say shows improper use of surveillance by the FBI. He also gave no indication that he planned to leave the agency.
However, this can also be a good jumping off point for exploring transparency and the surveillance of USA citizens. Sen.
The memo reads, in part: “The “dossier’ compiled by Christopher Steele (Steele dossier) on behalf of the Democratic National Committee (DNC) and the Hillary Clinton campaign formed an essential part of the Carter Page FISA application…”
Nunes’ spokesman Jack Langer said the changes were only minor.
President Trump said on Twitter Saturday morning the memo Republicans released Friday “totally vindicates “Trump” in the Russian Federation investigation.
Pence’s vow for transparency is in line with committee Chairman Devin Nunes, R-Calif., who suggested more information on the investigation will be declassified by President Trump, then made public.
There are now several investigations into possible ties between the Trump campaign and Russian Federation, but Trump has repeatedly denied any collusion with Russian Federation in its efforts to influence the 2016 election. Ryan can block either but has supported releasing the Republican memo.
“What’s going on in this country, I think it’s a disgrace”, a visibly tense Trump said as he announced his decision to release the memo.
They used the Isikoff story that they knew was Steele was giving information to the reporter and they presented it as a separate and corroborating piece of information?
