NVIDIA recalls SHIELD Tablets due to overheating, possible fire hazard
Nvidia has determined the battery in these tablets can overheat and pose a fire hazard. According to the company, it was found out that the battery in the devices are prone to overheating and can be causes for potential accidents and fire hazards. For the meantime, the company wants you to absolutely refrain from using the tablet, except for backing up data and taking part in the recall measure.
People will receive their replacement Shield tablet after registering for the recall, though Nvidia didn’t specify how long it will be before it arrives.
Prior to release Nvidia talked up the Shield’s ability to deal with an overheating battery, claiming the extra thermal dissipation of its design was double that of a typical tablet due to the intensity of running full video games regularly. The recall affects all Wi-Fi and LTE Shield tablets which were sold between July 2014 and July 2015, with Nvidia saying that it will replace the affected tablets free of charge.
The Android-based tablet device, with a price of usd300-$400, is focused at casual gaming fans and springs featured with batteries is that may made to add longevity. You can tap Y01 to launch the recall application on the device. Nividia recommends that users only use their tablet to back up files and to participate in the recall.
Thus far, no members of the public have come forward to report any fires as a result of the flaw – but with the risk present, Nvidia is clearly taking no chances and is looking to issue replacement units with new battery systems to all those potentially affected.
