NWA to be Inducted Into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame
This years inductees include Cheap Trick, N.W.A, Chicago, Steve Miller and Deep Purple.
Highlights from the induction ceremony will be broadcast on HBO. Deep Purple, best known for their sludgy brand of rock “n” roll and helping to bring in an era of metal, have classics such as “Smoke on the Water”, “Hush” and “Highway Star” in their lineup. Nine Inch Nails, the Smiths, Janet Jackson, Yes, the Cars, the J.B.’s, Chic, Los Lobos, Chaka Khan, and the Spinners were all nominated, and none of them will make it in. As Reuters reports, the Hall Of Fame announced this year’s class of inductees this morning, and it’s about as lame as can be expected.
Seminal rap outfit N.W.A and a trinket cabinet’s worth of classic ’70s dad-rock bands comprise next year’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees. They have also been one of the artists for which the Hall has been most criticized for not inducting.
Both Miller and Cheap Trick made it after their first year on the ballot.
Induction snubs aside, N.W.A member Ice Cube went on Twitter today (Dec. 17) to thank the voters and graciously accept the induction on the group’s behalf.
N.W.A. members Eazy-E, Dr. Dre, Ice Cube, MC Ren and DJ Yella will be inducted for their contributions and heavy influence on hip hop.
Performers are eligible for induction into the Cleveland, Ohio-based Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 25 years after the release of their first recording, and are voted on by a pool of 800 members of the Hall of Fame Foundation. “I think the movie helped to get people to remember that”, he continued.
He adds, “If they had asked me what do, I think I would have said, ‘Here’s a list of everyone that was ever in my band”.
