NWS: Wind advisory in place starting Tuesday morning
A Winter Weather Advisory for snow is issued when moderate amounts of accumulating snow will cause travel difficulties.
Heavy snow and gusting winds may have people concerned that they will lose power, but Eversource and United Illuminating said they are prepared to handle any issues.
The snow should start after 1 a.m., with one to three inches possible before sunrise.
No wind warnings have been issued, and wind speeds are expected to be between 10 and 15 miles per hour. Forecasters say that temperatures will be well-above average but still several degrees below record highs.
Southeastern Mass. and the Cape will be spared those huge snow depths with anywhere from a scant 1 inch to 6 inches on Cape Cod and the islands. Tuesday may see flooding in coastal towns and inland with high tide 2 to 3 feet higher than normal on the ocean and bays.
In D.C., more than 200 plow trucks were deployed by 7 p.m. Monday; salting streets began on Sunday.
Also, Kingston trash collection and Citibus services will be suspended from Tuesday until further notice. Expect widespread cancellations Tuesday and possibly into Wednesday.
A snow emergency plan will go into effect in the city of Frederick, Maryland, starting at 9 p.m. Monday.
The storm wraps up by Tuesday night, and Wednesday looks quieter for most with some lingering snow showers in the mountains.
Snow covered roads and poor visibility will impact the region overnight through Tuesday afternoon. “Some roads may become impassable with heavy wet snow”. Lighter snowfall may linger late Tuesday night into Wednesday.
The NWS is, naturally, warning that power outages could be coming our way.
