NY Giants suffer yet another heartbreaking loss
“Head coach New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick stands on the sidelines” Bill Belichick had plenty of praise for Amendola’s day, including the heady final play.
During the game the Patriots lost number 1 wide receiver Julian Edelman, just one week after losing their number 1 running back.
Edelman could return for the playoffs in January, but he is expected to be out eight or nine weeks. Therefore, his fantasy season is pretty much over.
“Julian Edelman will undergo surgery Monday for a broken bone in his foot, per source”. Amendola doesn’t have the same fantasy upside as his injured teammate, but he must be owned in all fantasy formats. The Patriots were a mess of injuries.
Against New England, that’s rarely enough. In his Patriots debut, he caught 10 passes for 104 yards, but injuries slowed the receiver down and prevented him from becoming a top fantasy option. During the same amount of games, Amendola only had 40 catches on 48 targets.
Although healthier, last season was even worse. “That being said, you take that into the (bye) knowing that you went toe to toe with the defending champs and you can play with anybody”.
While the Patriots kept their undefeated season alive at 9-0, they also took a big blow with Julian Edelman’s foot injury. Tyrod Taylor completed 17 of 27 passes for 158 yards and one touchdown.
Edelman’s injury occurred after he caught a 12-yard pass from Brady at the end of the first quarter.
As for New England adjusting to the loss of Edelman and Lewis, Belichick’s primary concern seems to be the on field rapport he feels his offense is missing with the two playmakers out of the lineup.
Arizona offensive lineman Mike Iupati hurt his neck when he was laid out in a scary second-quarter moment, but MRI and CT scans at a Seattle hospital were “normal” according to the Cardinals and he had returned to the stadium by the end of the game.
“Securing the ball properly right away as the second move rather than holding the ball away from your body, he learned a hard lesson and I’m sure it’ll stick with him”, Coughlin said. He also had the two most important catches on the possession. Manning had a career-best for one half of 251 yards passing.
Either way, with less reliable options behind Lafell and Amendola – such as Aaron Dobson and Keshawn Martin – expect them to each have the opportunity for double-digit receptions in most games, where Amendola has the edge in PPR leagues, and Lafell has the it in standard ones (due to advantage in the red zone compared to Amendola’s). But he did think the second-year receiver should have held onto the would-be touchdown that was knocked away from him and overturned in review.
This is brutal news for the Patriots.
