NY students fatally stabbed; distraught ex-boyfriend is called the killer
Officers found the bodies of students Kelsey Annese, 21, and Matthew Hutchinson, 24, along with one-time student Colin Kingston, 24, in a home around 6 a.m. Sunday, authorities said.
As of right now, it’s unclear exactly how the deceased-Kelsey Amnese, 21; Colin Kingston, 24; and Matthew Hutchinson, 24-were related to each other, but it has been confirmed that Hutchinson was a student athlete from Vancouver, British Columbia, who was in his final year at the State University of New York (SUNY) Geneseo.
Jeffrey Sezniac of the Genesio Police Department told CKNW that Kingston’s father called 9-1-1 and told police that his son had indicated that he’d hurt his ex-girlfriend Kelsey Annese and was considering harming himself before he ended the call. Kingston’s father called police who discovered the three bodies in Annese’s bedroom.
Despite writing on his LinkedIn page that he graduated in 2013, SUNY Geneseo officials told that the former student had not in fact graduated from school.
A man is suspected of killing two students at the State University of NY in Geneseo before taking his own life. “I think they’re as much in disbelief as we are”.
Officers say Kingston has no criminal past.
There were no signs of a break-in at the off-campus home primarily populated by women’s basketball team members.
Despite the fact that he purchased a knife and brought it with him to 18 Wadsworth, Szczesniak said it was impossible to determine Kingston’s mindset before the commission of the crime and whether Annese’s and Hutchinson’s murders were premeditated.
Police say Kingston and Annese had dated for about three years – and after the break-up he had made some suicidal comments to people. “Between a third and half of our volunteer membership are full time SUNY students, so Matt had quite a connection to those folks, but had also developed some pretty strong relationships with our full time community member volunteers. I can’t imagine as a parent losing a child who had so many accomplishments already and only had more to gain”, he said. “We realize that members of our community will handle this tragedy differently”.
Hours before her death, Annese, a senior guard and team captain, played in a winning match against Buffalo State.
Battles said Tuesday’s men’s and women’s basketball games will be postponed and there will be a Wednesday evening remembrance in the school’s gymnasium.
Annesse wore the number 32 jersey because it is the same number her father wore when he played for Geneseo, according to a bio on the college’s website.
“I can say that Matt was really in the upper echelon of our department”, said Geneseo Fire Chief Andrew Chandler. He put effort into these things like nobody else.Chanler said.
Chanler said Kingston, the former student, came from a “very nice” local family.
