NY team wins Little League World Series
The game was neck-and-neck until the final out, but M-E was able to answer every challenge that South Korea put in front of them.
The team defeated Tennessee on Saturday to win the US championship, then defeated South Korea on Sunday to win the world championship.
This is the first Little League World Series championship for NY since Staten Island won it all in 1964.
Maine-Endwell Little League from NY defeated South Korea’s East Seoul Little League 2-1 Sunday, ending a run of tough luck by the Americans in the Little League World Series at Howard J. Lamade Stadium. Huntington Beach, California, won in 2011 and Mid Island from Staten Island won New York’s last World Series championship. “Their teamwork, tenacity and love of the game shone bright on the world stage and made all New Yorkers very proud”.
It took a while, but NY finally solved South Korea starter Junho Jeong, a sidewinding righty who threw hard with a wicked breaking ball.
Michael Mancini was dominant on the mound on Saturday against Goodlettsville. He was unflappable for most of the afternoon, working the outside of the plate masterfully for 3 1/3 innings of no-hit ball before Jude Abbadessa broke through in the fourth.
“The curveball is usually my biggest pitch because I know if I’m down in the count I can throw that and get back up and maybe get them out with that pitch”, Mancini said. “I know they have a lot of pitchers that throw hard and throw some fairly nasty offspeed pitches”.
His performance left opposing manager Joey Hale with praise.

Maine-Endwell ended its flawless season 24-0.
This is their fifth victory in the World Series Tournament. In the second inning, the Asia-Pacific champions were robbed of a home run when right fielder James Fellows made a highlight-reel catch crashing into the fence. It is the first time since 1964 that NY has won the Little League World Series, CBSSports.com reported.
The team paraded through the town before reaching their home field, where they took a picture.
The team represents a city with a population of less than 12,000 on the outskirts of Binghamton. “So, I don’t have to be impartial today”.
For a while, it didn’t look like NY hitters would be able to hit anything.
