NYC passes law requiring businesses to close doors when AC is on

New York, with the largest foreign-born population of any US city, is following similar immigrant healthcare models enacted in San Francisco and Los Angeles.

“You would think given our results at Success Academies that the mayor and the chancellor would be rolling out the red carpet”, she said. “I do think the mayor has to be held accountable for his solutions and I don’t agree that we’ve got a bold educational plan that matches the massive nature of the problem”.

As she spoke, about a dozen protesters of charter schools, including a group that calls itself the “Hedge Fund Clippers”, chanted anti-Moskowitz and anti-millionaire slogans from across City Hall Plaza.

“I love kids”, Moskowitz said during a 30-minute press conference outside City Hall.

The founder of a powerful charter school network who has always been at odds with Mayor Bill de Blasio Thursday ended speculation that she would challenge him in the next election. Many traditional public school parents have complained that co-located charter schools suck space and resources away from their own children.

De Blasio, who has said he will run for re-election in 2017, said at a separate unrelated Queens event of Moskowitz: “She’s made her choice”, and added that he welcomes other candidates for “spirited debate”.

At times being drowned out by the hoots of the protestors, Moskowitz said that this was her chance to do for education “what Apple did with computing for the iPhone, what Google is doing with driverless cars”. A few complained Moskowitz runs her schools too much like a corporation.

“It’s a step towards greater fairness and greater transparency”, de Blasio said before he signed the bills.
