NYC police say drone hits Empire State Building
– A New Jersey man was arrested after his drone hit the Empire State Building on Thursday. The New York Times reports Riddle entered the building and asked security guards for help getting his drone back; they reportedly agreed, but instead called police.
In the ever growing list of high-profile landmarks that seem to be a target for drone disasters, New York’s Empire State Building can now join the club.
No injuries or damages were reported, and investigators told the TV station that they didn’t think the crash was intentional.
The incident comes as US government agencies and state and local police forces seek to better identify and regulate unauthorized drone flights due to mounting security concerns arising from the unmanned aircraft. He was then arrested at the scene on charges of reckless endangerment and navigation in and over the city.
