NYC subway rider becomes an Internet sensation; gives shoes to homeless woman
Enlarge Kay Brown/via Facebook 26-year-old Kay Brown, an assistant at a hedge fund in Times Square, gave a homeless woman her shoes after she walked onto the subway barefoot. “She asked me, ‘Are you sure?’ And I go, ‘Yes of course, oh my gosh, ‘ and so she started putting them on and started crying and I know it was wonderful and she just put them on and left”, Brown said.
Brown, 26, made headlines when she donated the shoes off her feet to a barefoot homeless woman on the subway Monday.
She ended up walking six blocks home in those socks. It’s the middle of November and she has no where to go, so the least I could do is give her a pair of shoes.
MANHATTAN- It was a chance encounter on board a crowded rush hour train: two women who just happened to wear the same size shoe.
“You see, I can buy another pair of shoes tomorrow”. And shout out to the guy who gave me the extra socks!
Shortly after giving away her shoes, a gentlemen on the subway noticed the kind gesture and gave Brown a pair of Nike socks to wear over her thin ones.
“I want people to put themselves in someone else’s shoes (no pun intended)”, she said.
“Wouldn’t you want someone to share the same compassion towards you?”
‘Pay it forward y’all, ‘ she added. They helped a ton!’
Kay Brown was on her way home from work when she saw a homeless woman riding in her bare feet.
“Right now there’s so many awful things happening, I mean absolutely bad things happening”, Brown says.
Brown also volunteers with organizations feeding the homeless and manages social media for the non-profit Fly for MS, which is dedicated to raising awareness and facilitating treatment of multiple sclerosis. She told the Today show, “I’m really thankful to have incredible parents who have taught me to always put good out into the world”.
‘This is something so small but the response has been so large. Kindness can be way more powerful than any sort of fighting.
