NYPD Commissioner Bill Bratton Personally Snatches Woman’s Morning Joint
New York Police Commissioner Bill Bratton has been patrolling the streets as of recent.
He and his security detail followed the scent, eventually spotting a young woman who Bratton said was “happily puffing away” while waiting for the pedestrian crossing signal, WCS 880’s Rich Lamb reported.
Bratton says he “politely” grabbed the joint out of her mouth and then deposited it in a “local sewer” before giving the young lady a stern talking to, saying she might perform better in school if she wasn’t high.
While walking around Wall Street on Thursday morning, Bratton caught a whiff of the unmistakable odor of burning marijuana. “She instantly recognized me”. “She’s got her hearing smartphones in a a faculty packaging, on her strategy to essentially the neighborhood schools”. I do wonder the color of the woman’s skin in his story of not arresting the woman smoking weed on Wall Street. “I wish I had a photograph of that face”, he said.
Bratton could have had the woman arrested because the joint was lit. But he has repeatedly said he would like officers to use their discretion with certain offenses.
New York’s top cop knows “that smell”, and he’s not having it on Wall Street – even if it is just a girl enjoying a joint on her way to class.
NYPD Commissioner William Bratton isn’t just preaching a gentler approach to marijuana enforcement – he’s put it into practice.
Public smoking is still illegal, but in most cases cops issue warnings, admonitions and summonses instead of making arrests, a police spokesman said.
The NYPD might claim it will no longer arrest people for low-level marijuana possession, but as SNL so vividly pointed out, you can not actually smoke your marijuana in public. “Only in New York”.
