NYPD officers wounded in Brooklyn shootout; suspect shot
Two NYPD officers in plain clothes were shot in Brooklyn early Saturday, police sources said.
NYPD Commissioner William Bratton said the officers were shot just before 3:20 a.m. Saturday near Malcolm X Boulevard and Lexington Avenue in Bedford-Stuyvesant and transported to Kings County Hospital.
The condition of the wounded officers and suspect were not known and the circumstances of the shooting were not immediately clear.
One suspect in the auto was shot as five cops returned fire, according to sources.
This is a developing story.
Officials say the officers were responding to reports of shots fired in the area when a man in a vehicle drove by and pointed a gun at them. Officials say both officers are stable and alert. Officials say Funes rammed his vehicle into a patrol auto.
De Blasio said one of the officers is a nine-year police veteran with two children and is expecting a third. The names of the officers have not be released. He said the other officer has been with the department for three years.
Funes has four prior arrests in NY, all of which are sealed, a police spokesman said.
