NYS Police to deploy additional troopers to large public gatherings

CBS News quoted the NYPD as saying that police are stressing that despite the precautionary measures, there is “no indication that the attack has any nexus to NY City”.
French officials say several dozen people were killed in shootings and explosions at a theater, restaurant and elsewhere in Paris on Friday. “Already, 1,500 additional soldiers have been mobilized”, said the Elysee Palace in a statement.
Densely populated areas in NY City were monitored by units from the Counterterrorism Response Command, Critical Response Group and Hercules Teams, according to the NYPD. The official was not authorized to discuss the briefing publicly and spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity.

“The people of NY City are heartbroken to see our sister city of Paris shaken again by these thoughtless acts of violence, and we stand in solidarity with the residents of Paris”, de Blasio said in a statement.
A Bloomington police official stated the force had no plans to increase security at the Mall of America, which receives about 40 million visitors each year.
In Washington, D.C., additional law enforcement officers were deployed to French-owned sites and other high-profile locations out of “an abundance of caution”, said police spokesman Officer Sean Hickman. In Boston, the MA State Police said “a comprehensive and multi-layered security package” was in place at Logan global Airport and patrols enhanced near the State House. Police did not say how many extra officers were sent to guard the areas of concern nor did they specify the areas where the extra officers were sent.
The Los Angeles Police Department said it was sending out extra patrols to “critical sites” and monitoring the ongoing situation, even though it said there were no known threats.
